01 Does a painting need packing in order to be moved?

02 How to pack a painting
There are several ways of going about this, and some of them can be wrong. It is advisable to get in touch with a professional to do it for you, someone with wide experience, so that there is no margin for error. Even so, in this article we will explain briefly how to do it in a simple way. The first step is to wrap the work in acid-free paper so as not to damage it. Once you have wrapped it completely, use tape to secure the paper. When the painting is completely covered, put card corner protectors on each corner. This is done to keep the frame from being damaged by a knock. You can buy these corner protectors or make them yourself. Use stiff card the same size as the work on both sides of the painting to protect it further. These can be attached to the card corners or wrapped in cling film to hold them in place. Last but not least, wrap the piece completely in bubble wrap and secure it with tape. Once that is done you only have to put it in a crate of a suitable size, and that is it.
